There are mainly three types of gas boilers that are fitted into houses and apartments and before you begin the one you have, you need to know which one it is. They are mainly:

Lastly, you have a high-pressure system if you don’t have tanks in the loft and water is being delivered under high pressure.
When replacing the gas boiler system in your home after identifying the one that you have, you will need to think about whether you will replace it with the current one like for like or switch to a different one that you feel is more affordable or modern.
You could find out that you have a combination boiler, and you find that you are ok with it. How the house has been made makes it more efficient to replace it with another combination boiler. The only thing you would probably like to consider is how much output you would require in the size of the boiler. If you either would like to increase or decrease the boiler size as this will affect the power of the shower.
Gravity fed boilers
This option is more complex to have in a home as fewer heat engineers would recommend having a gravity fed system, especially for a new installation. The main reason for this is that these types of boilers have some limitations for example the cold water tank that could be in the loft might burst and cause water damage to the whole home. These type of boilers are mainly for flats and apartments that have one or two bedrooms because the hot water consumption is relatively lower as opposed to a house with more rooms. With this, it is more efficient to have it as the lower energy costs matter.
With gravity fed boilers, they come with two types, which are mainly system boilers and heat only boilers. If the boiler system boiler has an external pump that moves the hot water around the flat then a heat only boiler is preferred. On the other hand system boilers come with their inbuilt pumps in the boiler that pumps the hot water to the home. The benefit for this type of gravity fed boiler is that less plumbing is required, but, unfortunately, it means the cost of the boiler has been raised. When choosing which of the two to use you should consider the plumbing system, if everything is fine then you only need a heat only boiler while if you need to replace part of the plumbing then system boilers are preferred
High pressure systems
High-pressure system gas boilers are normally found in large homes, which have large families. This is because they can provide hot water to the whole household. Combination boilers and gravity fed boilers are not able to adequately provide hot water. With such you would be replacing high-pressure system with the same one.
These are the new types of gas boilers that were introduced to the market in 2003. They are more fuel efficient, and they have been given an ‘A’ rating this is because they have 90% efficiencies. Other older boilers have a 50-70% efficiency and as such rated as ‘G’. These types of boilers help save on other energy costs due to their efficiency. Their main disadvantage is that they produce a steady stream of water that must be drained away through an access drain either externally or internally. This makes it a bit of a problem especially when it comes to installing it.
As mentioned earlier, heating engineers are required to do this kind of work, and they may require professional help from a plumber. The cost of the heating engineers varies because of different things like the city in which you are located in, availability of the professionals and complexity of the work. You will be forced to hire one as this is not something you can decide to do for yourself as you may end up ruining the plumbing system as well as parts of the house.
